Dog Day Afternoon: Real-Life 1975 Crime Drama

Dog Day Afternoon is a classic 1975 American crime movie, directed by Sidney Lumet, and starring Al Pacino as Sonny Wortzik. It was nominated for several Oscars, and won one Academy Award. The movie title refers to the term “sultry dog days of summer”, commonly experienced during July to August, when temperatures are warmest. It is based on the true story of a gay bank robber (John Wojtowicz), who held up a bank to fund a sex change operation for his male lover.
